Daniel Chessare owns the Saratoga's Broadway Deli. He's pivoted nicely during COVID and his business has done very, very well with take out and delivery during the pandemic. But, he knows many others haven't been as lucky. So he decided to put his food and his money where his mouth is. He posted a message on the deli’s Facebook page offering a free roasted chicken to those who maybe couldn’t afford a bird for their Thanksgiving holiday meal - or need one right now. No questions asked.
Giving is nothing new to Chessare. He donates food to local shelters and back in March when schools moved to remote learning, he helped fill the food gap for some students by offering free sandwiches.
He says he plans on offering the free roasted chickens through the end of the year.
In Virginia, a mom is alive today, because of the quick action of her 5 year old daughter. The two were home alone, when the mom started to feel sick. She went to lay down, and when the five year old came to check on her, she couldn't speak. The daughter knew right away to call 911.
When paramedics arrived, she was very calm and helpful. Let them in, and brought them right to her mom. Turns out, mom was having a blood sugar issue, and was taken by ambulance to the hospital. She is okay and incredibly proud of her kindergartner.
And finally, a World War 2 vet doesn't let a little thing like age get in the way of following his passion. He started flying in 1942 with the Army Air Corps and hasn't stopped since. He flies every single week, including on his 100th birthday last week. He may be the oldest active pilot in the world - his family submitted a video to the Guinness book people, but he says he's not too interested in that. He says life is about taking risks, and doing what you love.
