Pelosi Calls on Lawmakers To 'Save Postal Service'

On one side of the aisle – President Trump, says he’s trying to save the thing. On the other side? The Democrats, who say the President is trying to steal an election.

At issue is funding – both in general, but also as it relates to mail-in ballots. Last week, Trump admitted to holding up funding over the ballots. Whichever side you’re on, something everyone agrees on? That this is a crisis. And that’s why House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is calling lawmakers back to Washington, D.C. – she wants them to vote on a bill "to save the Postal Service."

Pelosi called on the House to return to session later this week to vote on the Deliver for America Act. The legislation requires the Postal Service to operate at the same level of service it provided on January 1, 2020. In a letter to fellow Democrats, Pelosi blamed Trump for a "campaign to sabotage the election" through sweeping changes aimed at delaying mail-in ballots.

The chairwoman of the House Oversight Committee wants the Postmaster General to testify next Monday. Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney made that request in a letter to Louis DeJoy – a longtime Trump donor-turned- Postmaster General. The New York Democrat says DeJoy will be questioned on the "sweeping operational and organizational changes at the Postal Service." DeJoy has until today to respond to Maloney's request. The hearing about issues with the Postal Service was originally set for mid-September.
