Refreshing. No last-minute cancellations. No sneaky agenda items. The Hoosick Falls Village Board listened for more than an hour last night (Monday) and respected the will of the people. The board tabled a $1,045,000 proposed settlement from Saint-Gobain and Honeywell involving PFOA contamination of the village water supply.
At the very least, the village will now exercise some badly needed caution and fully examine the proposed deal which critics say will protect the companies and won't fairly compensate the village. New village leadership will take over in a month or so. Giving them a chance to make the final call, is the right thing to do.
We spoke to Assemblyman Steve McLaughlin about that this morning. We also talked about a brewing scandal involving some of Governor Cuomo's campaign donors and whether we'll see a "warm and fuzzy" Donald Trump in tonight's speech to Congress. Hint: don't bet on it. - Chuck
