Chuck's Blog: Sarah Sanders, Maxine Waters and a Rotterdam Diner

I'm not a naive person and I don't shrink from a challenge or a fight but I have to admit, the current level of political discourse in this country is really starting to wear me down.  Everyone is blinded by anger.  No one will listen.  It's all out war.  If you don't agree with someone, you are now the enemy and must be shamed and defeated at all costs.

Will it end any time soon?  I doubt it.  Whose fault is it? All of ours, from top to bottom, from President Trump's latest useless feud (w/Jimmy Fallon) to a 21-year old intern for a Senator Maggie Hassan (D-NH) who thinks it's appropriate to throw "F-bombs" at a president.

Nothing is being resolved.  No one will compromise.  No one will take responsibility for their own behavior.  The "yeah but what about what he-or-she did?" people are frustrating and disappointing.

My biggest fear:  Someone is going to get seriously hurt or killed.

The only crumb of humanity I can cling to right now comes from Rotterdam, where the owner of Top's American Grill, Evan Christou, told The Gazette that we have to start talking about what we have in common instead of what divides us.  He adds that he will treat any customer, regardless of their political loyalties, with "dignity, respect and unforgettable hospitality."  He's even invited Sarah Sanders to come in for a meal.

Thank you Evan.  I really needed that. - Chuck
