Local College Makes Ten Worst List for Free Speech

In a report done by the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education colleges around the country were ranked in how bad they were at allowing free speech on campus. For the second year in a row, RPI was on that list.

According to FIRE, there were many incidents that helped get them on the list including a February 2018 incident where students were removed from outside a hockey game because they were passing out flyers critical of the school's Student Union policy.

When asked about the issue, RPI said the students didn’t have prior authorization to hand out the material.

Another incident reported was from October of 2017 when RPI paid police officers to video tape students participating in a protest against the Student Union takeover. Two students were then disciplined because of the footage.

Syracuse University, also made FIRE’s most recent list.
