Princeton Valedictorian Is Engaged To 71-Year-Old Professor

Not exactly the kind of announcement you would expect from a valedictorian at an Ivy league school but 25-year-old Princeton grad revealed she is engaged to her former professor and 'beloved mentor' who is nearly 50 years her senior.

Cameron Platt told friends and family in a Facebook post about her love for 71-year-old Lee Clark Mitchell, writing that they had 'made it official'.

They only started dating six months ago after praising his 'brilliance, sensitivity, and passion'. Mitchell, who will be 72 in June, was chair of Princeton's English Department when Cameron took his classes during her sophomore year five years ago.

She also acknowledged that the announcement “will come as a surprise to many” and that the couple had concerns about their relationship, given their “different stages of life.” But she said that more importantly, she’s deeply in love with Mitchell.

He was previously married to Carolyn Abbate, who is thought of as 'one of the world’s most accomplished and admired music historians'. They have two sons, aged 21 and 26.

After nearly seven months of dates, the two are now engaged to get married.
