Happy Hour: Purple Heart Returned After Over 70 Years

US Army Commemorates 240th Anniversary With Mt Vernon Ceremonies

The local family of a World War II veteran has been reunited with a Purple Heart that was thought was lost forever. The family of Private First Class Floyd Mabb was reunited with his Purple Heart during a ceremony on Tuesday afternoon at the American Legion Post in Ballston Spa. The medal was delivered to County Clerk Craig Hayner after it was found in the lining of a purse purchased at a local garage sale and they tracked down the family from there.

The start of the school year is about three weeks away, and Albany Police are making sure kids are ready. Yesterday, Albany Police and the Police Athletic League handed out backpacks full of school supplies to children at PAL's summer camp. Pal says it's their way of giving kids a head start on having a successful school year.

Fifteen teens in the Albany Police Cadet program have graduated after spending the summer learning what it really takes to be a police officer. Some, like 14-year-old Kevin Jenkins say the experience has inspired them to pursue a career in law enforcement.
