It's said that the only true charity is done anonymously. And, acknowledging that, SUNY Schenectady is the beneficiary of a true act of charity. An anonymous donor has given a cool one-million dollars to support the school's food pantry, as well as its mentoring programs and to provide scholarships, among other things. The donation comes at a time when colleges are struggling due to declining enrollment, the pandemic and huge cuts in state and federal funding.
We have news of another inspirational donation, also for a great cause. This one in Glenville, where the "Grey Muzzle Organization" came up $10,000 for the Animal Protective Foundation. That money will help with provide medical care for older dogs. This is the third year "Grey Muzzle" has handed out the big grant: last year, the Protective Foundation used the money to treat 22 "senior dogs" and help find "forever homes" for the "old timers". The Grey Muzzle Organization, is dedicated to improving the lives of senior dogs.
A dad just finished a bicycle ride in the UK to raise money for charity. He made the entire 200 mile trip on a tiny, pink bike that belongs to his 8-year-old daughter. He says he wanted to make it more challenging. He had to stop and change a tire 8 times. The journey took him 6 days to complete and he raised more than $6,000 for cancer and heart research. You can see photos of him and the pink bike here.
