Doug's Blog: Everything Has a Price, Except This

Tour Boat Capsizes On Lake, Killing 20

I’m a guy who has said many times “I would not hesitate for a second to buy a house that had something really bad happen in it.” Hey if the price is right, I’m in and I’m good. But not this time. Nope, no way, no how. In this case it’s not a house but rather, a boat. For the asking price of $49,900, you can be the proud owner of the Ethan Allen.  If that name rings a bell, it should. Back in 2005 a boat with 47 tourists on it capsized in Lake George and 20 people ended up dying. The boat that capsized that day… yup, the Ethan Allen. It’s been refurbished and a new hard top has been put on it, and it’s available. So for $50K, you can own a boat that was part of a horrible tragedy. If you are interested, have at it. As for me, not at $50K, not at $40K, not at $30K… not at $0K. You could GIVE me $10K to take the boat and I’m still not interested. Some things are just an end-of-discussion ‘NO’, and the Ethan Allen is one of those for me. No.
