A couple of tiny mites cheerleading teams have some celebrating to do. The Rotterdam Pop Warner Tiny Mites Cheerleading team just won their competition at the Eastern Region finals in Trenton, New Jersey on October 30th.
The team, made up of cheerleaders aged five to seven, are heading to Nationals in Orlando, Florida this December. Now, why is this a big deal? According to head coach Courtney Sebring, the program was almost shut down when their property was sold to the Rotterdam Industrial Park. – However, a deal was able to be made to keep the youth program under a low-rate lease deal of the Pop Warner field.” But due to Covid, the program took a hit and it has taken a couple of years to bounce back, making the win a huge shock.
And not far behind, is the Colonie Pop Warner Tiny Mights who took second place out of the 18 teams – also securing their spot in Orlando.
Both teams need to raise $10k to assist with room and board, transportation, meals ect. Rotterdam will be hosting various fundraisers to raise money – you can find out more on their website.
There's also a special girl who’s trying to raise money for her trip to Orlando. Ainsley is a part of the Colonie team and you can often see her and her family cleaning up the intersection of 890 and Broadway in Schenectady, while raising money for her cheer team. She hates seeing the spot filled with litter and often cleans it up. She’s taking it a step further and even taking intersection cleanup requests. So if you see them down there, drop a dollar in her bucket.
