New York State's tax cap appears to be keeping a lid on most public school budgets in New York State.
According to the numbers sent to the state comptroller's office and crunched by the New York State Association of School Business Officials, 98 percent of school districts plan to stay within their tax caps for the 2017-2018 school year. The group notes that although its early in the process, only 15 districts propose overriding the cap. That would be the lowest since the inception of the tax cap in 2011.
