Troy Police Investigating Random Attack on Pedestrian

Troy Police are looking into a stabbing from early yesterday morning.

It happened around 2:30 AM in front of 77 Congress Street.

Police say a male victim was walking along 3rd Street with a friend, when they were approached by 35-year-old Carl Pugh.

Pugh began to yell and threaten the victim, and then suddenly attacked him with fists and a knife.

The victim sustained injuries to his face and chest, but is expected to recover.

A bystander had called 911 and Pugh was quickly located and arrested.

Troy Police Captain Dan DeWolf says the quick apprehension was simply great police work.

"With the aid of some cameras, some of the downtown cameras, and the fact that an officer had seen, who was described as the suspect, a little bit earlier in the evening over at one of the restaurants on 4th Street, they went and checked that footage as well, to help them determine what the guy was wearing, and they were able to catch the guy soon thereafter."

A motive in the attack is currently unknown at this time.
