The New York Department of Motor Vehicles is warning of an email “phishing” scam that sends an email stating that the recipient must pay a ticket within 48 hours or their license will be revoked.
The fake emails provide two links that direct unsuspecting users to a malicious download.
The DMV says if you receive one of these emails, you should delete it immediately.
While the notice is made to appear as if it comes from DMV, it is a hoax.
Here’s an example of what an email like this might say:
“Dear Driver:
We are writing to inform you that the state police department has notified us that you have several outstanding traffic violations. If you do not make restitution for these infractions within 48 hours, we will be forced to revoke your driver’s license.

Sincerely,
The NY DMV”
