A Waterford resident was among the 16 people killed Monday when a U.S. military plane crashed in rural Mississippi.
41-year-old Marine Maj. Caine Michael Goyette was assigned to a Marine Aerial Refueler Transport Squadron.
The KC-130T air tanker was carrying members of an elite Marine special operations unit cross-country for training in Arizona when it went down late Monday afternoon in the Mississippi Delta.
The fiery crash scattered wreckage for miles around. Officials are investigating the possibility of an explosion on the plane while it was in the air.
The Saratoga County Sheriff's Office tweeted, "Our thoughts and prayers are with the Goyette family of Waterford on the loss of their son."
