A Utica man has lost his life while trying to save a woman in a drowning near Lock 19 of the Erie Canal in Herkimer County.
State Troopers say it happened at around 8:00pm Wednesday night when a woman jumped into the water to save a dog. She began to struggle. Her cousin's boyfriend, 26 year old George Grullon, jumped in after her.
Grullon went under and did not resurface. His body was found about three hours later.
The woman and dog both survived.
