Hunt for Kidnapping Suspect Leads to Hot Tub

Colonie Police capture a previously deported felon, in a hot tub.

Police Lieutenant Robert Winn tells News Channel 13 they were called to Central Avenue and Jupiter Lane, on a tip that a possible suspect in a Schenectady kidnapping was seen in the area.

"He got away from the officers pretty quickly, he was hiding in some wooded areas, as well as, we believe he hid in a swamp and a creek."

Police searched the area with both a K-9 unit and state police helicopter, and ultimately found Rafiek Yussef, hiding in a hot tub behind a house on Southwest Way.

A Colonie woman, Judy Banach, got quite the shock, as police pulled Yussef from her hot tub.

"And I turned around and looked, and the cover of the hot tub was off, and there was this man, with clothes on, standing up in the middle, all wet, standing up in the middle of the hot tub."

Yussef was not charged in the Schenectady kidnapping case, but police say he does have a federal warrant and is also a previously deported felon.

His charges are pending.
