Marquette University Professor John McAdams has been fired for defending the rights of students to express opposition to same-sex marriage. However, the Wisconsin Institute for Liberty and Law, who is defending the professor, says the firing violates his contract which promises freedom from threats of dismissal over constitutional rights.
The issue arose after a fellow professor in an ethics class criticized a student for expressing disagreeing viewpoints on same-sex marriage. McAdams defended the student in a blog post, that passed no judgement on same-sex marriage itself, but instead noted that liberals frequently shut down debates by claiming the topic is offensive.
