Petition Delivered in Albany To Restore "Tappan Zee" Name

A petition that calls for restoring the "Tappan Zee" name to the new bridge connecting Westchester and Rockland Counties is expected to be delivered to Albany today.

Governor Andrew Cuomo pushed to name it the Gov. Mario M. Cuomo Bridge, in honor of his late father, at the end of the 2017 legislative session.

The saveourtappanzee.org petition has gathered more than 110,000 signatures and calls for the bridge to go by the name of its predecessor.

Supporters argue the bridge should continue to honor the Tappan, a local native American tribe, and that a name change requires new road signs and maps at the expense of taxpayers.
