A big 50-year anniversary for the annual holiday parade in Schenectady is approaching.
This parade will now be known as the Fidelis Care Holiday Parade.
For years, it has been known as the Gazette Holiday Parade.
The Gazette, however, is still on board for parade participation.
This year, it will be held on Saturday, November 17th at 5 PM.
Schenectady Mayor Gary McCarthy tells WGY the number 50 is always very special.
"It's going to have gold as the theme for the 50th anniversary, sending the request out that participants, floats, bands, other ones, put gold in their color scheme."
McCarthy adds that with the parade spanning 50 years, people who went to the parade as kids, years ago, are now bringing their kids to the very same parade.
