Former Senate Majority Leader and Son Sentenced to Prison

Silver, Skelos, Cuomo

Former State Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos has been sentenced to 4 years and 3 months in prison.

Skelos (at center with former Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver and Gov. Andrew Cuomo), was convicted for a second time in July on charges that he used his position in the Senate to get his son Adam no-show jobs worth about $300,000.  His initial conviction was overturned because of a U.S. Supreme Court ruling.

Skelos was also fined $500,000.  His son, Adam, was sentenced to 4 years in prison for his role in the extortion conspiracy.  U.S. District Judge Kimba Wood sentenced Dean Skelos to an extra 3 months behind bars, saying he lied on the witness stand.
