Cohoes Mayor Shawn Morse Launches Re-election Bid

Cohoes mayor Shawn Morse announces that he will run for re-election this year, with a press conference at the Cohoes Veterans Memorial.

The embattled Democrat has held office since 2016 and has been at the center of several investigations during that time. While announcing his new campaign, Morse offered an apology but did not get into specifics on what the apology is for, "When you're dealing with the stress that you're dealing with and there's people that want to take advantage of that stress, sometimes you may act out and say words you don't want to say or are not as nice to people that you wish you were."

"As I said before, if anybody in this city has seen the worst of Shawn Morse at my worst of times, I apologize."

The State Police has been looking into allegations that Morse physically abused his wife and daughter. There is also an active FBI investigation into Morse's campaign spending.

He refused to resign last year, even after Governor Andrew  Cuomo called for Morse to step down. Cohoes' Industrial Development Agency board voted in November to remove Morse as its director.
