A military service member from Dutchess County has died overseas while on active duty. The Defense Department says 25-year-old Navy service member Shannon Kent from Pine Plains was among four Americans killed in a suicide bombing in Syria on Wednesday.
An Army officer and two American civilian contractors also died in the bombing which ISIS says it carried out. Kent was a Chief Petty Officer in the Navy, she enlisted in 2003 and also served in Iraq.
Flags in New York will be at half-staff as ordered by Governor Cuomo.
