A third Capital Region medical marijuana dispensary is now open.
FP Wellness is run by Fiorello Pharmaceuticals and is located on Route 9 in Halfmoon. Patients will need to have a medical marijuana card and their doctor to be registered with the state to purchase products. "A doctor would make the recommendation and send it to us," dispensary manager Katie Ogden says. "The recommendation will actually state 'per pharmacist consultation'. Really, how the patients are determining what products they want is going to be with a pharmacist, hands on."
When it comes to the product, Ogden says the side effects are much lower than what you will find with other pain medications.
"Medical marijuana is different in the sense that one of the conditions from the Department of Health is that it's opioid replacement therapy," Ogden says. "Its actually a safer alternative to a lot of the pain medications you're gonna see."
Fiorello operates a marijuana growing facility in Glenville. PharmaCann and Vireo Health run dispensaries in Albany.
