At an Emergency meeting that was called by the Cohoes Common Council, Common Council President Chris Briggs has been sworn in as Mayor.

Cohoes Mayor Shawn Morse has pleaded guilty to wire fraud, a felony criminal charge that was part of a seven count federal indictment that was handed up in February.

Morse admits he took $500 of campaign funds in August of 2015 for personal use. According to News Channel 13, Morse will pay over $12,000 in restitution to victims, it's unclear as to if he is required to resign from office.

Morse lost a June Primary to Retired State Police Major Bill Keeler, who's running unopposed this November in the general election, and is expected to take office on January 1, 2020.

Morse may face anything from probation to around a year in jail when he's sentenced in December.
