Illegal Immigrants Can Now Get Driver's License In New York

It's a green light for a controversial new law in New York state. Starting today, tens of thousands of illegal immigrants can apply for a driver's license. This comes as a federal judge tossed out Rensselaer County Clerk Frank Merola's challenge on Friday, saying he did not have the necessary legal standing.

Merola tells WGY's Chuck and Kelly he definitely has no plans to issue any illegal immigrants a license and that very little training has been provided so far. Merola's challenge was tossed out late last week by a federal judge, he says he's going to file one last motion on Monday.

Advocates say this will cut down on the number of hit and runs and make the roads safer. However, opponents say it's unconstitutional and New York State law conflicts with federal immigration policies.
