Albany County Executive Dan McCoy announced Friday that the number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Albany County has now climbed to 4,843 to date, an increase of 87 new positive cases since Thursday.

The five-day average for new daily positives rose to 81 from 76.4. Among the new positive cases, 24 had close contact with positive cases, two reported out of state travel, 59 did not have a clear source of infection at this time, and two are healthcare workers or residents of congregate settings – though none from Shaker Place Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. There were five new hospitalizations to report overnight, while the number of county residents currently hospitalized increased from 44 to 45. There are 10 patients in the ICU (Intensive Care Unit), unchanged from yesterday, and the hospitalization rate remained at 0.92%. There were no new deaths to report, with Albany County’s death toll remaining at 148 since the outbreak began. As cases are continuing to increase, Albany County officials are encountering an obstacle, people are not being truthful with contact tracers, which is hindering the county’s ability to limit the spread of the virus.
