Senator Kirsten Gillibrand was in Brooklyn Monday announcing federal gun trafficking legislation.

The measure is named after two teenage girls who were both killed in gun violence. Gillibrand says the bill aims to address the illegal transfer of guns across state lines, by establishing gun trafficking as a federal crime. Gillibrand notes the legislation comes as shooting incidents have spiked by 22 % in New York City this year driven in part by the proliferation of illegal handguns.
