The State Education Department says the governor's office and state Department of Health are still working on COVID-19 health and safety guidelines for the upcoming school year.
In a letter to districts, the education department said until those rules are announced, schools should follow the recommendations of the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and American Academy of Pediatrics. The department did say it believes students should take their classes in-person. But, officials suggest that schools be ready to offer remote learning if a public health emergency is declared.
