The impeachment investigation into Governor Cuomo is ending with his resignation.
Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie said there's no reason to proceed because they don't have to determine if Cuomo should remain in office, because he's stepping down. In addition, he says it's the "belief that the constitution does not authorize the legislature to impeach and remove an elected official who is no longer in office."
Earlier this week, Republicans in the Assembly Judiciary Committee issued a statement saying they would like the impeachment investigation to continue despite Cuomo's resignation announcement.
Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul takes the reigns on August 24th.
