Flags will be flown at half-staff at all New York State buildings today in honor of the U.S. soldiers and those civilians killed in a deadly attack at the airport in Kabul Thursday.

Two suicide bombers and several gunmen ambushed the airport in Afghanistan's capital city, killing at least 60 Afghans and 13 members of the United States Armed Forces. New York Governor Kathy Hochul ordered flags at half-staff, saying the attack in Kabul was an attack on our democracy and freedom. Additionally, the order from the governor coincides with the honor meant for New York State Trooper James Monda, who died in the line of duty earlier this week.
