Governor Kathy Hochul is calling a special session of the State Legislature as the eviction moratorium is set to expire.

Lawmakers will meet today at noon to discuss extending the moratorium, which could be pushed out to January if not later. A group representing thousands of landlords has threatened to sue the state if the moratorium is extended, after the New York Supreme Court recently ruled evictions can continue.

Meanwhile, Hochul says she's doubling the state's efforts towards distributing billions of dollars in federal funding that's been allocated for landlords.

Governor Hochul says the special session will also cover cannabis legislation and the state's "open meetings" law, as she says too many have been cut off amid the pandemic.
