State Police are trying to find out who's behind a so-called Grandparents Scam targeting older people in Columbia and Greene Counties. The scheme involves callers posing as a grandchild or other family member, claiming they need money to bail them out of jail or to cover medical bills. According to HudsonValley360, one victim in Chatham left twelve-thousand dollars outside of their house that was intended for an alleged courier. Police say the suspects are hard to track down since most of the payments have been made in cash or in the form of gift cards.
