Longtime Union Coach Rick Bennett Has Resigned

Union College hockey coach Rick Bennett has resigned. Bennett was suspended on January 20th, as the school investigated allegations regarding his coaching style. “I arrived at this decision because I felt it is in the best interest of Union College hockey. That has always been at the forefront of my thoughts,” Bennett said about his resignation. Bennett was an assistant with the program for six years until 2011 when he became the Dutchman's head coach. During his 11 year tenure as head coach he lead Union to six 20 plus win seasons, four NCAA Tournament berth, two Frozen Four appearances, and one National Championship in 2014. Assistant coach John Ronan has been named interim head coach for the rest of the season. Union takes on RPI in the ninth meeting of the Mayor's Cup at MVP Arena Saturday afternoon, Union currently holds a 5-3 advantage over RPI in the Mayor's Cup rivalry., and one National Championship in 2014.
