National Grid is issuing a warning about a scam that has been targeting customers of the utility company.
Officials say people have received calls and emails claiming to be from National Grid that demand past due balances on their bills be paid right away. The scammers then threaten to shut off service immediately unless a payment is made using the person's bank or credit card information or it's requested they purchase a prepaid debit card and give the caller the card number. National Grid says anyone who thinks they have been a victim of this scam should contact their local police department.
