The Republican Elections Commissioner with the Rensselaer County Board of Elections is in some legal trouble after being indicted.
According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, 42-year-old Jason Schofield unlawfully used the names and dates of birth of voters to apply for absentee ballots for use in elections that were held last year. In some cases, Schofield allegedly took those ballots to people and had them sign the absentee ballot envelopes without actually voting, allowing him to cast votes in their names. He was arraigned Tuesday and released on his own recognizance.
