The superintendent of Albany City Schools says the person who showed symptoms of the monkeypox has tested negative for the illness.

Kaweeda Adams said Wednesday the individual is a student at the Sheridan Preparatory Academy and there were concerns they'd contracted the rare viral disease. Monkeypox is commonly spread through both skin-to-skin contact and also through contact with surfaces. There have only been 13 confirmed monkeypox cases in the Capital Region but seven of them were in Albany County.
