On Giving Tuesday, the Federal Trade Commission has issued some tips on how to avoid being scammed.
The FTC recommends that you do research on the organization that you are considering donating to and see if others have had good or bad experiences with the charity. Also, ask the organization important questions such as what your money is going to be used for. Finally, don't assume that requests for donations posted on social media are all legitimate. Anyone who sees a scam can report it at reportfraud.ftc.gov.
