New Details Released on NY Thruway Emergency Plane Landing

More details have emerged about the emergency landing of a small plane on the New York State Thruway near Exit 23 in Albany. The incident occurred on Friday (December 20) at approximately 12:43 PM. The pilot, Logan M. Steed, a 19-year-old from Winnsboro, South Carolina, was flying a Beechcraft Travel Air twin-piston aircraft. He was accompanied by two passengers, Steven D. Strunk, age 54, and April D. Strunk, age 52, both from Mount Perry, Ohio. Fortunately, no one was injured during the landing.

The plane had departed from Fairfield County Airport in Winnsboro, South Carolina, at 8:35 AM and was en route to Bennington, Vermont. Due to mechanical issues, Steed attempted to land at Albany International Airport but was unable to reach the runway. Instead, he made the decision to land on the Thruway. The aircraft is registered to a flight training school in Winnsboro.

State Police and the Federal Aviation Administration are investigating the incident to determine the cause of the mechanical failure. First responders and New York State Police were quick to arrive at the scene, ensuring the safety of those involved and the public.

The emergency landing did not result in any injuries according to NBC5, and the pilot and passengers were unharmed. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are working to ensure the safety of future flights.
