Saratoga County Sheriff Michael Zurlo announced he will not seek re-election after his current term ends in December 2025. Zurlo, who has served as sheriff since 2013, expressed gratitude for his time in office and reflected on his 48-year career in law enforcement. He began his career with the Mechanicville Police Department before joining the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Department, where he rose through the ranks to become sheriff.

Zurlo cited his upcoming role as a grandfather and the right timing as reasons for his decision to step down. He stated, "It's time," and described his tenure as the most rewarding period of his career. During his time as sheriff, Zurlo implemented initiatives such as placing school resource officers in schools, expanding the emergency radio communication system, and fostering relationships with various law enforcement agencies.

According to CBS6 Albany, Zurlo endorsed Undersheriff Jeffrey R. Brown as his successor. Brown, a lifelong resident of Saratoga County, has served in various roles within the sheriff's office, including deputy, investigator, lieutenant, captain, and undersheriff. He expressed his commitment to continuing Zurlo's work and maintaining the department's integrity and professionalism.
