Dean Boland, a man wanted for a 2017 murder in New York City, was arrested in Albany on Thursday (January 9). Boland, along with his brother Rasheed, is accused of killing 20-year-old Justin Hackley in Brooklyn's Flatbush neighborhood. The U.S. Marshals Service apprehended Boland at a home in Albany, with assistance from the Albany Police Department and New York State Police Special Operations Response Team.

According to Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez, Boland was arraigned on charges of second-degree murder and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He is being held without bail and faces up to 25 years to life in prison if convicted. The arrest comes years after the murder, which occurred when Hackley, a college student home for the summer, was shot during a confrontation initiated by the Boland brothers.

Rasheed Boland was previously arrested in Texas in 2019, and his case is still pending. The brothers were indicted in 2017, two months after the homicide. Surveillance videos and DNA evidence linked them to the crime, and their photos were widely distributed to aid in their capture.

Dean Boland is expected to return to court on February 3, 2025. The case is being prosecuted by Senior Assistant District Attorney Daphney Gachette, under the supervision of Assistant District Attorney Leila Rosini.
