Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer announced that Albany NanoTech will become the flagship facility for the National Semiconductor Technology Center (NSTC), making the Capital Region a global hub for computer chip research. Schumer revealed that $825 million has been secured for this initiative, which aims to advance extreme ultraviolet (EUV) technology crucial for producing cutting-edge chips used in smartphones, computers, and other advanced machinery.

Albany NanoTech will serve as the national headquarters for EUV research and development, driving economic growth in New York by creating high-paying jobs and attracting future investments. Schumer emphasized the importance of this development for America's national security and technological future.

The NSTC EUV Accelerator at Albany NanoTech is one of three planned major NSTC facilities, with others located in California and Arizona. The facility will collaborate with industry leaders like Micron, IBM, and GLOBALFOUNDRIES, and explore partnerships with countries such as South Korea, Japan, and Belgium.
