Colonie police have arrested 36-year-old Christopher White in connection with a series of thefts from motor vehicles. The thefts began on Christmas Day and continued through January 15 in neighborhoods near the Colonie Mohawk-Hudson Bike Path. White allegedly rode his bicycle through these areas, stealing cash, gift cards, and other personal items from unlocked vehicles.
Authorities identified White using video surveillance from victims and their neighbors, which captured images of him, his clothing, and his bicycle. The Cohoes Police Department assisted in identifying White, who faces two counts of felony grand larceny and nine counts of misdemeanor petit larceny. He was arraigned in the Town of Colonie Court and is currently held at the Albany County Correctional Facility pending a preliminary hearing.
Colonie Police Chief James Gerace emphasized the department's commitment to apprehending those who commit thefts, stating, "Perps prowling around private property will not be tolerated." Police urge residents to lock their cars and homes and use lighting and motion sensors to deter theft. Anyone with additional information is asked to contact the Colonie Police Investigations Division at 518-783-2754.
