Albany Hosts Lunar New Year Celebration Today

Albany, New York, is celebrating Lunar New Year today (January 29) at the Empire State Plaza. The fourth annual event will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the plaza's south concourse. The celebration is free to attend and offers a variety of entertainment, activities, and food vendors.

The event marks the Year of the Wood Snake, known for its mystery and wisdom. Attendees can enjoy thrilling performances, including cultural showcases by community organizations and martial arts demonstrations. According to Empire State Plaza's official site, the event will also feature engaging activities such as calligraphy and papercutting.

In addition to entertainment, the south concourse will be transformed with informational panels and exhibits showcasing Asian artifacts. The New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision has donated plants to beautify the area. Food vendors like Two Little Dumplings and Pho Yum will offer a taste of authentic cuisine.

The New York State Office of General Services (OGS) is hosting the event, with support from sponsors like M&T Bank and Trader Joe's. Commissioner Moy emphasized to News 10 the importance of family and togetherness during Lunar New Year, inviting everyone to join the festivities.
