Albany Police Investigate City's First Homicide of 2025

Albany police are investigating the city's first homicide of 2025 following a deadly shooting on Central Avenue. Officers responded to reports of a shooting on Thursday (January 30) around 5:40 p.m. and found a 30-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his groin. The victim was treated at the scene by emergency medical personnel and transported to Albany Medical Center, where he later died. His identity has not been released pending family notification.

The incident occurred at the intersection of Central Avenue and Ontario Street, leading police to close off the area for over three hours. Albany police have assured the public that there is no ongoing threat, as a person of interest is currently being questioned in connection with the shooting.

According to CBS6 Albany, Leonardo Guzman, 34, of Schenectady, has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He was arraigned and taken to Albany County Jail.

WNYT reported that the police are continuing their investigation to gather more information about the incident.
