Students, faculty, and staff at Cambridge Central School District will notice increased security today (February 3) following a threat made last Friday. The threat, which targeted the school and specific students, was reported over Snapchat. A juvenile suspect, who does not reside in the district, has been arrested in connection with the incident.

According to a statement from Interim Superintendent Ken Facin, the district was immediately alerted to the threat through a private chat on social media. Local law enforcement, the District Attorney, and the New York State Police were promptly notified and began an investigation. The Cambridge-Greenwich Police Department confirmed that they responded to the school after a student reported the threat, leading to the arrest of the suspect.

Police have assured the public that there is no ongoing threat, but emphasize the seriousness of online threats. They encourage parents to discuss responsible social media use with their children and the importance of reporting suspicious behavior.

As a precautionary measure, there will be an increased police presence at the school today. The district appreciates the cooperation of students, staff, and families in maintaining school safety.
