An investigation is underway following a tragic crash in Charlton that left one person dead on Monday (February 3). The collision occurred at the intersection of West Line Road and Route 67, involving a tractor-trailer and a pickup truck. The driver of the pickup truck was ejected from their vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the victim has not yet been released, and no other injuries were reported.
According to CBS6 Albany, the crash led to the closure of Route 67 between Jolly Road and Morrow Road for approximately four hours as authorities conducted an investigation and collision reconstruction. The road has since been reopened.
The New York State Police are leading the investigation. According to the State Police, the investigation is ongoing, and they have not released the name of the deceased.
Local resident Jim Rogers, who has lived in the area for over 30 years, mentioned that accidents are not uncommon at this intersection. He expressed his concern about drivers needing to be more cautious and aware of their surroundings. News10 reported that the intersection has seen multiple accidents over the years, including a fatal crash in 2016.
