Albany County Executive Dan McCoy delivered his 14th State of the County Address on Tuesday (February 18) at the former College of Saint Rose campus, outlining ambitious plans for public safety, affordability, economic development, and public health. McCoy emphasized the need for action to elevate Albany County to new heights.
A key focus of McCoy's address was public safety, with a commitment of $900,000 for renovating fire training towers in Guilderland, Colonie, and East Berne. He also announced plans for a new state-of-the-art fire training facility in Albany, which will serve first responders across the region. Additionally, McCoy introduced the Albany Navigates Street Homeless Outreach Pilot Program, aimed at connecting the homeless with essential services.
Affordability initiatives were another highlight, with McCoy proposing affordable childcare options similar to the Little Sprouts daycare at Shaker Place. He also discussed transforming the former College of Saint Rose campus into an economic hub, which will include a new senior center and house several county departments.
McCoy addressed urban decay by announcing the purchase of the Central Warehouse property, with plans for demolition and redevelopment. He also proposed reevaluating shared services with the city of Albany to optimize taxpayer spending.
"This is our moment," McCoy stated, urging proactive efforts to create opportunities and drive Albany County forward.
