The Schenectady Fire Department is set to welcome a new chief today (February 20). Mayor Gary McCarthy will officially announce the promotion of Assistant Fire Chief George Burns to the position of Fire Chief. Burns, a dedicated member of the department since 1995, will fill the role left vacant by the recent retirement of Donald Moreno. Moreno retired last month after more than 30 years of service, celebrated with a walk-out ceremony at Station 1 in Schenectady.
George Burns has served the department for three decades, showcasing his commitment and leadership. His previous role as Assistant Chief will now be taken over by Deputy Fire Chief David Massaro.
The transition marks a new chapter for the Schenectady Fire Department as it continues to serve the community under Burns' leadership. The department looks forward to maintaining its high standards of service and safety for the residents of Schenectady.
