New York State is marking the third anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine by flying flags at half-staff and illuminating state landmarks in blue and yellow. Governor Kathy Hochul announced that these symbolic gestures will take place on Monday (February 24) to honor the victims and show solidarity with Ukraine.
The landmarks to be lit include 1 World Trade Center, Moynihan Train Hall, the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge, and Niagara Falls. Governor Hochul emphasized New York's support for Ukraine, noting that the state is home to the largest Ukrainian population in the United States. "As the home of the largest Ukrainian population in the United States, New York proudly stands with Ukraine in their fight against Russia’s deadly assault," she stated.
Governor Hochul also reaffirmed New York's commitment to Ukraine's independence and freedom. The recognition of this anniversary underscores New York's ongoing support for Ukraine amidst the ongoing conflict.
