Colonie police have identified Jose Holguin, a 45-year-old man from Schenectady, as the victim of a fatal car crash that occurred on Monday (February 24) on Wolf Road. The accident took place at approximately 1:45 p.m. when Holguin's Toyota Corolla, traveling north, crossed into the southbound lanes and collided head-on with a Honda Odyssey near Sand Creek Road. Holguin was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver of the Odyssey, a 42-year-old Colonie resident, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation. According to NEWS10, early findings suggest that Holguin may have experienced a medical event before veering into oncoming traffic. The Colonie Village Fire Department assisted at the scene, and the road was closed for about two hours before reopening.
Police are continuing their investigation and are asking any witnesses to come forward with information. As reported by CBS6 Albany, the names of the drivers were initially withheld pending notification of next of kin.
